Subject: Transportation

Any work about or including transportation and/or modes of transportation as a primary subject; or including transportation materials, equipment, or parts of either, is eligible.

Rules:

Artwork must be original; no duplicates or renderings of existing works are acceptable and will be excluded automatically if found.

The artist must posses the artwork and/or copyright for the submitted works.

An artist’s works must not be subject to prior contracts or obligations which would prevent their exhibition on the WSG web site.

Images of works must not be intentionally modified to misrepresent the works. Artists are encouraged to submit images close to the maximum size for the best possible image viewing experience.

Artwork must NOT contain any partial and/or full nudity, and must also NOT contain imagery suggestive of such.

Image Specs:

Digital

  • Files must be no larger than 800 pixels in any direction per panel.
  • Only file types TIFF, JPG, GIF, PNG, RAW, or BMP are accepted (your file will be converted to a common format for display).
  • No moving images are acceptable, the files must be single-frame still images.
  • Label files: first name . last name - entry # . file extension, and do not include spaces.
  • Multiple section or panel works are allowed 1 image per panel; their entry numbers should be 1A, 1B, 1C (for a triptych), using whichever entry number they comprise. Entry numbers consisting of more than 5 images (or five two-image groups for three-dimensional works) will not be considered. Alternately, you can combine sizes for a multi-section work and compose an image, but it must fit into one of the following sizes: 1788x1788, 800x4000, or 4000x800.
  • Three dimensional works are allowed a maximum of 2 images per work (per section if multiple panels/sections are present). You may label both images with the same number.
  • Two-dimensional works are allowed a maximum of 1 image per work (per section if multiple panels/sections are present).

Film

  • Only 35mm negatives, 35mm positive slides, and transparencies no larger than 6”x8” will be accepted.
  • All types of film will be scanned.
  • Label slides or transparencies with entrant’s name and entry number.
  • Face the slide or transparency so that when you look at it in your hand, you see the correct representation of your work. Place a dot in the lower left of the slide or transparency on the face that you are looking at.
  • Multiple section or panel works are allowed 1 image per panel; their entry numbers should be 1A, 1B, 1C (for a triptych), using whichever entry number they comprise. Entry numbers consisting of more than 5 images (or five two-image groups for three -dimensional works) will not be considered.
  • Three dimensional works are allowed a maximum of 2 images per work (per section if multiple panels/sections are present). You may label both images with the same number.
  • Two-dimensional works are allowed a maximum of 1 image per work (per section if multiple panels/sections are present).

Fees:

$10 per entry number (multiple panel works do not pay multiple fees, only the one fee for the number. i.e. if you have slides 1A, 1B, 1C, 2, 3, 4 you will pay a total of $40)

A maximum of 5 entry numbers is allowed (under no circumstances should more than 5 images appear for any one entry number, or five two-image groups for three -dimensional works).

Documentation:

Each work must have a title, dimensions, and price or NFS listed. It is also useful to include the presentation information for each piece (you do not have to say where or how, but it is recommended you mention if the piece is framed and/or ready to display).

Artists may submit an Artist’s Resume, but this is not necessary. Artists may submit a listing of Selected Exhibitions, but this is not necessary. Artists may submit an Artist’s Statement, but this is not necessary.The artist must provide contact information if any works are for sale.

Deadlines:

May 28, 2007 – entry form will be available on this page
Mar. 31, 2008 – EXTENDED entries must be postmarked by this date
Apr.. 11, 2008 – EXTENDED entries must be received by this date
Apr. 18, 2008 – EXTENDED winners notified
May 16, 2008 - show begins

Works for Sale:

All works for sale must be priced and indicated on the entry form. Works not for sale should be marked so.

The Whistle Stop Gallery asks for no commission or other sales fees.

However, the artist is responsible for negotiating the sale. Remember that a sale may involve a shipping charge; please don’t forget to mention this to a prospective buyer.

Also, the Whistle Stop Gallery and Joseph Langley recommend the artist state up front that all sales are final, and also recommend that no piece be shipped without receiving at least a partial payment and/or a legal sales contract (including a notification to the buyer of rights retained, including copyright). Finally, the Whistle Stop Gallery and Joseph Langley have no responsibility of the condition of the work, purchase price, shipping accommodations, or any arrangement or payment involving the sale of the work. Any sale is the artist’s responsibility and theirs only.

All information involving the sale of a work in this document should be taken as a personal recommendation only, not as an instruction to do so. The arrangement of a purchase and its particulars are the seller’s and buyer’s responsibility.

Awards and other information:

  • Art is a Journey Award - award certificate and a copy of the Atlas of Western Art History by John Steer and Antony White.
  • Remember the Past, Look to the Future Award - award certificate and a copy of the Essential History of Art.
  • Best of Show – selected work(s) appear in this show, and additional gallery exhibition containing up to 12 artworks and artist information for a period of 3 months
  • Award of Excellence – selected work(s) appear in this show, and additional gallery exhibition containing up to 3 artworks and artist information (a four artist group show) for a period of 3 months
  • Exhibiting Artist - selected work(s) appear in this show
  • there is a possibility of additional awards

Each artist (complying with the rules and specifications of the gallery and this show) will receive a certificate detailing their specific award; artists not selected for the exhibition will receive a certificate of appreciation for their contribution to the arts.

Each award winner and/or exhibiting artist will appear in our past exhibitors list. The list will contain the artist’s name, publicly available contact information (if present on the entry form or document of exhibition), the show title, any awards won, and show date(s). This list will be organized alphabetically by name, with show dates in a descending order beginning with the most recent.

Each award winner and/or exhibiting artist will receive a press release detailing their accomplishment.

 Award books are actual books. The author(s), editor(s), and/or publisher(s) have the responsibility of their content. The Whistle Stop Gallery does not warrantee these books (they appear to be in fine condition).
